The Mackeral are on at Cooktown Wharf

We all headed down to the Cooktown Wharf today because one of the regular visitors to the Dragons Lair told us about the metre long Spanish Mackeral he caught down there this morning.
The weather is near dead calm and will be four at least the next week, which means just about everyone who fishes will be doing so.
I caught this young Spanish that got hit in the throat on the way in. It went back in the water for the QLD gropers that live under the wharves.
Our mate hooked a big one,but the groper got it as it came close to the pylons.
There are millions of dollars worth of game boats in town at the moment. The big Lizard Island game fishing tournament is due to start tomorrow I think.
Anyway, we’re gunna head to the beach later and camp, so we can get some sunrise photos over a glass like ocean tomorrow.

An expensive sport. Low average is $2000 a day to charter a game boat here.
