Correction: We DRIVE to FNQ

Well, after a disappointing finishing payout from Brad’s work, we’ve had to admit defeat already. We can’t afford to buy pushbikes, trailers, etc, let alone support ourselves for the month or two the trip would take. So we’ve had to take the cheapest option available to us. We’ve arranged for a permit to drive Jimmy up, and will leave in the morning.

We’re headed to Cairns first, where a good friend is going to help us out with some work. The plan is to save up enough $$ to buy what we need (solar system, new laptop etc) and then head bush. It may be another few months down the track, but at least we won’t be in Rocky. 😉

Oh, another deviation from the plan. We had to change our minds in regard to buying a new laptop, internet connection etc (also due to said affore-mentioned disappointing finishing pay). But, in having to save some money, we happened upon a rather cool bargain. We now have a Garmin Asus Nuvifone A50… for the non-geeks, that’s a flash new android phone/GPS/internet machine. No good for any photo editing or art work, but we don’t really need that for now… the laptop can come at another time. The important thing is that we have contact with the special people. Aaand, it IS a pretty cool little gadget.

And, I think we’ve become addicted to Angry Birds…

Made it safe and sound… a little sunburnt but otherwise healthy and in reasonably good spirits. Shame about your puter. I hope it’s all good now. You don’t need that extra expense. I’ll send you an email in the next few days… give you an update… when the rsi I’m developing in my finger goes away.
Be good Bob. Lots of love bacatcha :0*

Very happy to read you made it safely…….and brought the floods with you. 🙂
Hope you weren’t inconvenienced by them in your travels.

It was very strange GOF. It barely even rained on the way up here. Rivers that had been flooded or under a warning the day before we left were open and clear. It was like the water parted to make way for us. Says something, don’t you think? 😉

We were a little bit disappointed that we couldn’t stop at yours on the way past. T’was a bit too much of a gamble, unreg car and all 😉 I was looking at that big pointy mountain just today, thinking ‘I reckon we could nearly walk there in a day. Look out… we just might surprise you.
Do you come to Cairns very often.

Saturday 19th we’ll be in Cairns putting Inga on a plane back south.

Also hope you and Brad can catch up with Tarzan…..I’d really like to know more of his story if you find him in a talkative mood.

Oh, and our friend tells us that he’s seen Tarzan here in Cairns a couple of times since Yasi… good news.
